At the end of the 2000's the world's fossil fuels began to run dry. This paired with an already unstable political landscape set the stage for the worst conflict in human history, The Resource Wars. The world's powers battled for the last pockets of oil, coal, and natural gas in a desperate attempt to maintain their way of life, and after a while just general order. Over half of the world population would parish in either the fighting, famine, or general civil unrest. The Resource Wars lasted for seventy years and saw all the world's political alliances dissolved. As all hope seemed lost a development out of the remnants of the United States would change the world, a scientist created a nitrogen power cell giving the world clean renewable energy for the first time, but nothing at this time was safe for being used as a weapon. The nitrogen cells were used to power a new generation of weapons called Mechanized Infantry Units, MIU's, giant human like mechs that tore through the battlefield. Combining the power of a tank and the mobility of a human they soon spread across the globe and brought a quick end to the war. In 2190 the first United Nations conference since the war began was held by the world powers that had either survived or sprang up during the war to bring peace and set the stage for a new political system. Block nations were set up to deter another war. In 2200 the United Confederation of European Countries, UCEC, was founded the first block nation created from the ashes of the prewar European union and would be the model for all Blocks to follow. Now one hundred years later the four Blocks of the United People Republic of the Americas, the United Confederation of European countries, and the Allied Asian Assembly and the Middle Eastern Defense League. jockey for power and control over the world's remaining independencies, nation not a part of the block. And they do so on the backs of their MIU's.
