Cult of Orcus

The Cult of Orcus is the most prevalent demonic cults in Earhion, followed by those of Dagon and Malathat. The cult only achieved this prevalence after Orcus became the Prince of Demons in 496 AM, although it was still one of the largest demonic cults prior to that. Even among fiendish cults, Orcus' is second only to that of Leviestethas Without Fathom.
Many of Orcus' cultists wish to aid her in taking control of more layers of the Abyss to expand her power, as well as expand her - and as such their - control in the Material Plane. Many necromancers and those concerned with undeath pray to her, and there are more than a few warlocks unwittingly working for her - she's not above deception. Perhaps most strangely, a number of demons actually worship her, which is absolutely not the norm. Most of those demons that work for her, especially those inhabiting her layers of the Court of Toxin and the Bone Salt Lake, venerate her as a deity.

Structure

Given that Orcus actually exists, and given her nature, she has established herself as the head of her cult. She does appoint high priests, who in turn can appoint regular priests, but if she feels threatened by any high priest, she does murder them violently.

History

Orcus' cult only attained notability in 3632 PM, a few years after Orcus established herself as a demon lord by taking over the Bone Salt Lake. It exploded in size after she took the Court of Toxin from Agraz, apparently killing the former demon lord, in 3023, and once again in 496 AM.
