Rivenport

Geography

Rivenport is a vibrant port city situated on the shores of Edhenal, across the Edhenfalas Strait from Freeport in The Holy Kingdom of Halon. The city lies at the mouth of the Silver River, which meanders through Rivenport's heart, dividing it into distinct districts connected by a series of ornate stone bridges.

History

Rivenport was founded around 864 A.R as a modest fishing village. Gradually, it evolved into a thriving hub for maritime trade, attracting merchants and sailors from across the region. As the city's wealth and influence expanded, so did its population and complexity, weaving a rich tapestry of cultures and traditions that created a unique and dynamic urban environment. With the unification of Edhenfal in 960, Rivenport joined the newly founded kingdom, while preserving its independent government structure and rapidly growing trade network.

Economy

Rivenport's economy revolves around its prosperous port, which once facilitated trade between the kingdoms of Edhenal and Halon. However, since the closing of Halon's borders, Rivenport's trade focus has shifted towards the rest of the world. Besides its booming fishing industry, the city is renowned for its mercantile prowess, with influential merchant families competing for control over Rivenport's lucrative trade routes and resources.   The city's elite have accumulated significant wealth and influence, often surpassing even the city's official leaders in power and authority. This concentration of wealth has led to a stark divide between the city's upper and lower classes, with many lower-class citizens struggling to make ends meet amid the overcrowded streets and skyrocketing prices.

Government

Rivenport is governed by a council of elected officials who oversee the city's administration and enact laws to maintain order and prosperity. However, the true power in the city rests with the affluent merchant families, who utilize their vast resources and influence to shape the political landscape to their advantage.
