Gutimi'tes

The desert of Bran'Aredh is not easy to travel. And, quite frankly, the desert does not have the good manners to stay away from the seven cities, but the sand is carried everywhere, so much that apart from the pavements outside their homes, the people don't much bother to remove it. Which makes travelling a little more difficult. The noble houses can afford to have their horses, the magnificent beasts that carry them around, but this luxury is not accessible to the common folk. The gutimi'tes, however, is.   Designed by some very clever saeli-tuk engineers, the gutimi'tes looks like a small boat (or a not-so-small one), with a propeller specifically designed for sand, a bicycle-like wheel and pedals that one can use from the inside, and a fabric covering the whole gutimi'tes from both sun and sand. Even though some people own their gutimi'tes, most of them are rented, when people want to travel, or carry items around. They can be driven by one or two people, or be dragged by horses - even though the latter are exclusively used by the noble houses. The smaller gutimi'tes are ideal to transport items within a city, the larger ones - that can go much faster, since they accommodate more drivers - are mostly used for travelling or transporting items between cities.   However, the gutimi'tes are mostly owned and used by merchants, since the Aredhites seldom travel between cities. It is the merchants that need to move large quantities of items from city to city, and despite their profits and financial stability, they prefer the gutimi'tes to horse caravans, which would require large quantities of food and especially water, since there is no water to be found between the cities of Bran'Aredh. The design of the gutimi'tes, however, makes it almost effortless to drive and - besides - it is much more convenient and cheaper to have an employer to drive it than a horse.
