Aredhian

There is a very distinct curse in Bran'Aredh; an insult so severe that it demonstrates the depth of one's disgust for another. That expression is zayen karna and it translated to whore's underwear. Before prostitution became a legal enterprise in Bran'Aredh, only the most desperate would go into that profession, and those were not many. In fact, it often happened that a prostitute had barely time to pull up their underwear before another customer would remove them. After a day's work, a prostitute's underwear would be quite a collection of genetic material. So when someone is filthy - in body or in character -, they are called zayen karna. Nowadays few know how this idiom came to be, since brothels are respectable edifices, and prostitutes never wear underwear anyway.   A very interesting expression that shows both the difficulty and futility of a task is water of sand. Some saeli-tuk mages were determined to find a way to turn sand into water, an enterprise that cost in time and money, and inevitably failed. However, it had been presented as the ultimate solution that would ensure that the desert people would never again be in danger of dying of thirst, and the desert itself would be transformed into an oasis of plantation and wildlife. In the end, the desert remained as uninhabitable as ever, and the expression "you can't make water of sand" came to be.   The onset of puberty, even though it is not celebrated in Bran'Aredh as it is in other cultures, has its own idioms. It is said that Alhor's powers came to be when the god reached puberty, and that's when his fires became uncontrollable and nearly destroyed Bran'Aredh. So now, when a girl or boy enters adolescence, the locals would say that they're burning with the fires of Alhor, to explain wild behaviours, or sexual desires, or even the physical transformations that occur during this period of life. And, depending on the outcome, they may say for young people that they're consumed by fire or that their sun has risen.
