The Great Dragon Pillars

The Great Dragon Pillars were the two tallest structures for over one thousand years and still stand to this day even though the Great City built around them was destroyed. They were built with the skill of the Haendorians, the strength of the dragons, and the influence of the gods. Though they are called pillars, these structures are more like vast walls sloping upward and flattening out at the top to form great upright triangles with their tops cut off

Purpose / Function

They served as perches for the Dragon King Golnuli, and his mate, the Dragon Queen Evebos. Much more than that, they were a symbol of unity of the dragons, goods, and Haendorians. Upon Golnuli's perch (the outward-facing side) is written the following inscription: Haendorionae van Dragunae, ran canuli; Haendorians and Dragons, folk united. On the inward facing side: Golnae ni ka kistonas guan fi canulor; No power can withstand this aliance. On the outside of Evebos's perch is written: Ninav kristaenas gwelsa torcoup; only as friends will we prosper. Inside: Kaedra sa va ag everion hendoe; Peace is allotted to all who mean well.

Alterations

The Pillars were made of great dark grey stone blocks so finely cut that not even the smallest and sharpest blade could fit through a crack. The inscriptions were carved to show deep red granite underneath the layer of grey stone. On the top of the pillars and along the backwards slope were gold-painted ramps slightly bigger than the thickness of the grey blocks. However, after the destruction of the surrounding city, they were greatly crippled and cracked, but they still stand. in later years, the golden paint was stripped off the top, melted back down to gold, an sold to unsavory types. Today, they are still the tallest structures for miles around. Their weather-worn faces still show a hint of the Haendorian words under layers of grime, moss, and lichen.

Architecture

The majesty, precise crafting, and detail, are all clear markers of Haendorian architecture, but a certain magic, benevolence, and power radiates from them that is reminiscent of the dragons.

History

The gods gave the Haendorians and Dragons a vision of the finished Pillars, and a desire to create them. Dragons dug great boulders of stone from the mountains and brought them to the Haendorians to cut and carve. With the skill of the Haendorians and the magic of the dragons the pillars became the mightiest structures in the world. They were much diminished in the destruction of the Great City, but they have yet to fall.
