Human

Humanity was introduced to the land of giants in the midst of the age of the Jotun. They spread quickly throughout southern Tegrun and carved out a place for themselves on the island of Refrandr, present day Khylo. Because of the domination of the Grim King in the waning years of Jotun supremicy, humanity spread ever further northward into orc inhabited lands. Because of the undying legions humanity conquered the low plains of Tegrun from coast to foothills. When the Tegrun clan saw this they were afraid and made peace with humanity quickly. By the time of the first human Jotun meeting, the Grim King had been overthrown and replaced with Issabelle Dawson, who became very close with the Tegrun family clan's youngest daughter. In the wake of this budding friendship, Issabelle Dawson adopted the Jotun gods, the Setti, as humanities own gods. This proved a crucial decision, as the Setti would come to humanities aid many times thereafter. As the Jotun wars began to grow more fierce, relations with the Jotun became more strained. At the height of the Jotun wars, humanity had become favored by the Setti, and the Jotun began warring against humanity. To this day the city of Khylo still boasts walls that can defend against giant sieges, standing at roughly 300 feet tall, a feat of engineering which the Grim King had initiated.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanity has been the standard of normal since the Jotun brought them under their authority. This is because no matter what other race they are compared to, similarities are found. Next to orcs humans are smaller but have many of the same features. Compared to elves humans are on average shorter, but have more muscle density. Despite this, humans and elves share many physical similarities. Thus the term humanoid was brought forth from the common tongue to define any bipedal creature with the same arrangement of limbs and facial features.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans reproduce sexually through the union of a male and female. Gestation takes nine months and results in a live birth. Occasionally a woman can have multiple children in a single birth, though this is rare and seems to be dependant on either one or both of the parents.

Growth Rate & Stages

Humans grow to maturity around 18 years of age but do not stop growing until 25 years of age. Humans live for around a century.

Ecology and Habitats

Humans can survive in the wilds, but often make homes for themselves and expand to make urban environments in which they thrive more.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Humans have eyes with which to see, but they are generally less adaptive and so cannot see in darkness near as well as other races, such as elves. Humans have noses with which to smell, but cannot be used to detect danger or track prey nearly as well as many wild beasts. Their noses do, however, contain a higher amount of iron which makes navigation easier. Humans have ears with which to hear, but again are not as good as a wild beast. A human can hear many things from far away, but cannot focus on a single sound for too long. Humans have tongues with which they taste food and drink. Humans are naturally good at detecting poisons and often were taken into Jotun courts as cupbearers. Humans also have a strong sense of touch but can lose this sense easily if injured in fighting or manual labor. Humans often convey intimacy to another through touch.
