Salmarir The Unwritten

Salmarir (a.k.a. Unwritten, Erased, Errata)

"...He has no cup or hat with which to beg, no coins sit at his feet. Tucking himself fetal, his bag under his head, your presence doesn’t seem to shake him as he begins to doze. "
— Character Sheet Entry for Salmarir's Appearance
Salmarir is the DMPC for Legends of Dugond's 2019 Thursday sessions. Primarily designed as a 'living objective marker', the party's love and pity for the character have elevated Salmarir from a simple plot-finder to a full-fledged member of the party.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Salmarir is frail at best, barely fed and nothing but skin on his bones.

Body Features

Tanned, ruddy skin.

Facial Features

A full white, wiry beard and a long pointed mustache.

Identifying Characteristics

Full body, dark and broad 'weaved' tattoos. These tattoos signify his death in Stone Dwarf culture, but as he is not dead it is refered to as his "Unwritting": the taking of his name and history. Being Unwritten makes Salmarir less than a person and no longer worthy of a clan name or song in the eyes of his people. This status brings pity at best and contempt at worst, as the sentence of Unwritting is a steep and harsh one to be burdened with and typically only reserved for incredible acts of criminality.

Physical quirks

Either jaunty and upbeat, where he seems to be in almost a jovial half-dance as he walks. Until he stops, then becomes pensive; with closed footfalls and guarded, wringing hands - like a child who knows he's to be scolded.

Special abilities

Salmarir is a Diviner of sorts and has vision-fueled episodes which he can 'throw' to others.

Apparel & Accessories

Found wearing a literal, with label still on it, burlap potato sack.

Specialized Equipment

A fist-sized bag of white beach sand stays at his hip which he guards with his life.

Mental characteristics

Education

He can't speak to where or how he learned his abilities, but it is obvious he learned them. When he begins to cast, his frantic motion takes a backseat to a cool and almost rote muscle memory and his satchel and parchment are covered in runes and "half-baked sigils", which could be a method of scribing.

Failures & Embarrassments

Salmarir at all times acknowledges that he is in many ways a burden and it colors his view of himself and his own value. He fears the day the party "sees through his supposed usefulness" and will cast him aside. This Impostor Syndrome runs incredibly deep and he verifies the truth of his uselessness to himself every time he sees his own damning tattoos.

Mental Trauma

Additionally, he occasionally enters a fugue-state or as least will lose attention and wander off, even mid conversation. This gets worse with exhaustion.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Salmarir is just well enough to know there is something wrong with him, being lucid in waves or when calm. Knowing this and knowing the kind of burden he can be both with his illness and his Unwritting, he seeks to aid in any way he can to those who aid him, be it with his powers, skills or blood.

Hygiene

Is filthy to look at, but somehow only smells like fresh cut grass.

Social

Speech

Salmarir is mute. Though this defect doesn't seem to stem from the same place as his distraction. If so focused, Salmarir can get across rather complex ideas with only gesture or illustration, the problem lies in keeping him centered long enough to complete the thought.
