Kruger Rifle

There’s a common saying in much of the galaxy: “Krugers are like brain cells, everybody’s got at least one.” That may be true - one recent estimate put the number of Kruger-type rifles produced since its creation nearly 200 years ago at a pace faster than galactic population growth.
Krugers are absurdly tough for a kinetic rifle, enduring even without maintenance and in horrible conditions. They can even chamber a powerful airburst round, originally developed alongside the gun.
There’s no one source for a Kruger - the original manufacturer long-ago ceased to exist, and a huge number of copies flooded the market during the Codridactic Civil Wars. They’re cheap, hardy, and - in some cases - family heirlooms.
Where I go, I am never alone, For I have my most faithful companion with me. He does not ask for my food. He does not ask for my water. He needs no medicine. He needs no rest. He asks only for the chance to sing his song. The opportunity to strike down my enemies. To do his duty, and do it well. If only we could all be so tireless, so single-minded, so self-less. And I take comfort, in knowing that when I have crossed beyond the horizon, gone beyond the edge of the desert, That my friend will carry on, to further days, to further battles, to further glories.
