Entry #1138: Athame of Flame
Class: Melee
Type: Sword, photonic solidification
Origin: Pre-historic / "Precursor"
Description:
The Athame of Flame was recovered from a derelict pleasure yacht, found adrift in the Nos Nebula with its escape capsule missing. Investigators had tailed the vessel on suspicion of being probaritol chloromystic smugglers. All that was found was signs of violence - and this sword.
Dubbed the “Athame of Flame” due to its uncanny resemblance to a weapon depicted in an ancient grimoire, the sword’s design exhibits all the hallmarks of the Precursors, but with metamorphic changes consistent with corruption from the Dim.
Law enforcement did not initially identify it as a weapon, due to the lack of a physical blade. It was only after testing at the Vault that the weapon generated a cutting edge: the handle unleashes a dense cloud of rubidium, and promptly projects a photonic beam. The photons are slowed far below light speed, gain mass, and generate a tremendous amount of heat. The photons within this “hard light” blade act much like a subatomic chainsaw, and have been shown to cut through every material tested thus far.
(Ed. Note: [Classified: Secret]:
The grimoire in question dates to the 13th Cycle, a mostly-untranslated tome suspected of being from the later years of the Precursor era. Cross-referencing the object and the text clearly show that the design of this sword was known in antiquity.
The massive energy output of the object are in-keeping with what we have been able to learn of the Guardians of the Veil, analysis indicating that the sword has the ability to create “tears” between real space and the Dim. If utilized rapidly enough, a user would appear to teleport, using the Dim to maneuver across normal space.
What connection there is between the Guardians, the Precursors, and the Dim, is still the subject of much speculation.

Ed. Note: [Classified: Top Secret]: A Precursor what? A Precursor sword? In all my years in Sci-Ops, I’ve never heard of such a thing. I always thought the Precursors had the right idea: why get in close when you can shoot from afar?
The ‘corruption’ Timur mentioned has me concerned. The Guardian artifacts we’ve found have all been untainted - same with everything ‘Precursor.’ Is this just the inevitable progression of exposure to the Dim? Confirmation of the rumors surrounding a ‘corrupted Precursor’? Or something else yet unseen?
