Ellen of Theev

Ellen (No Surname) of Theev
Information Courier (Age 10)   Ellen was born of Astor (No Surname) and a pirate whose name she has never known.  She was raised by her mother on the planet of Theev under the tutelage of her adopted father, Derit the Beggar. As she grew up on the streets of Theev she learned how to beg and steal from the various criminals who sifted through the city of Theev. They lived in the junkyards outside of town in a repaired and refitted free trader which didnt make the grade as a pirated prize. Against all expectations, she grew up to be a bright and very resourceful child. She learned fast and performed each task better then most adults.    Her mother always tried to keep her sheltered and wanted as good a life as possible while living in the gutters of Theev. However, what she needed to survive was to learn the hard lessons of life and to learn them fast. It was Derit that gave her that education. She was told that her father was a pirate who had died long ago, but she soon learned that the look in her mothers eye when she talked of this unknown man was not nostalgia but fear. She never went into details and most conversations ended fast when the topic came up. While her mother worked hard at a third rate casino on the edge of town, Ellen worked the streets with Derit as a spotter of the best marks. She had a good eye and even better instincts. Before long she was picking pockets and bringing in bigger paydays then her mother even if Derit took the credit for it. When they weren't relieving the most bloodthirsty pirates in the sector of their ill-gotten wages, the Free trader home always needed repairs. She learned how to repair systems and access computers in ways which Derit seemed all too well acquainted with. Even in Ellen's young mind she wondered how this beggar had such skills and knowledge.   When her father started asking her to run messages around town she jumped at the chance to explore the city. She knew her neighborhood very well, but now she could meet and see all of the great places. It was the android security that scared her, however, and it wasn't long before she had her first arrest. While delivering a message to a captain at one of the Space Port spires, she saw that a man had a gold watch dangling from his pocket. Full of greed she thought it would be a simple mark. The woman who grabbed her hand appeared out of nowhere and she was tossed like a bag of flour against the floor. She thought she would be dead but something must have clicked in the robotic brain because the android picked her up and placed her in a "detention bubble". She cried for hours until her mother picked her up from the Main Security Station and paid the month worth of wages that was the fine for a first time offense of theft.   Since that day Ellen has worked to hone her skills on the street and continued to work for her adopted father running messages, but learned never to put personal gain above the mission. When Derit ordered her to take a scout vessel to Drinax and deliver a message to a resistance agent there she obeyed without a word. Derit knew best and she was always ready to fulfill her duty.
