Kalina the Evil Storm Witch

In Drelina there's a tale of the Storm Witch. An evil elf with a horrid scar upon her hand who summons the storms from the mountains An evil elf who will come to your village and kidnap you to join her evil army if you misbehave.

Summary

This is a new "boogie man" story but 200 ish years is a long time in the human mind. The idea is that the evil witch Kalina will steal you away to be in her army is you're bad but there are variations where she will also eat you or sacrificing you to an evil fey creature.
Kalina is always the evil witch and they also mention her scar. What she will do changes depends on who is telling the story. With Kalina still being alive and trying to take over the kingdom there is a level of dark humor in this tale. She has been known to attack villages and take people before.

Historical Basis

This boogie man story comes from real life examples. Kalina's war against the current ruling family has been off and on for awhile now depending on her resources. There have been times when she would attack villages in search on willing and unwilling soldiers. It hasn't happened for awhile now (since she has a new way to gather an army but no one knows that) so it has gone into a bit of legend even though there are people around who have lived through her.
When it comes to the kids this spooks them into behaving. The adults use this sparingly but the fear has died of a little bit. It is a bit of dark humor to deal with the possible real stress. When she has taken kids she doesn't put them in the army. She tires to convert them to her side and if unsuccessful she will drop them off in a town closer to the feywild.

Spread

This story is spread all of the country but it used more in human families than elven ones. There is still this dived from the civil wars of before that the elves are old enough to remember. Even amoung the humans though Kalina isn't always the bad guy. There is a lot of secret support of her that many people do not vocalize.

Variations & Mutation

Families who may secretly support or have sympathies for Kalina will put Night Hags in place of Kalina. That is a slight way to even find out where a families loyalty lies within the common folk. The crown hasn't caught on to this.

Cultural Reception

People who are new to the country will only ever hear this in passing or when they have kids of their own and make friends with other families. Kalina is very anti-immigration so new cultures to the country are pretty willing to use a horror story of her. Of course every culture has their own boogie man and sometimes Kalina will grown features of these different boogie people even though she's just a wood elf.

In Art

If you go to the museum in the capital there is a monstrous painting of Kalina where she is stealing kids and summoning a massive storm.
