A Sleeping world Awakens

Forty thousand years ago, our planet became the center stage of the single most destructive conflict in all of history. this conflict, The God War, was fought with weapons of inconceivable power, shattering entire continents and even subverting the fabric of reality itself. The ultimate conclusion of this tragedy was twofold: the erasure of all previously recorded world history, and the loss of the world to the magical radiation known as Phantomwild. by this time, the surviving peoples of the world had scattered to the few remaining pockets of hospitable land. Some claiming inheritance to the kingdoms of old, and others organizing new nations entirely.   for a long time, these isolated communities had enjoyed relatively predictable lives under the protection of their leaders. However, these days of normalcy are slowly fading into memory. It is apparent that after all these years, the dangerous effects of Phantomwild are dissipating, and the kingdoms of old are scrambling to reclaim their lands. These pursuits inevitably spark conflicts between nations new and old, and none envy those smaller communities destroyed in the crossfire. Amongst rapid techno-magical advancement and whispers of a higher power at play, anxiety rests upon the shoulders of the people. perhaps a second God War may be imminent.   Dragonstar Valentine at its core is a setting consisting of people trying their best to organize a fundamentally unpredictable world. Phantomwild, this world's source of magic, has a nasty habit of abstracting and enhancing the reality around it. This can make a typical crawl through an abandoned dungeon or even just a stroll through the woods into something almost akin to a fall through a Wonderlandian rabbit hole. Even though many civilizations can reliably harness Phantomwild through machines and spells, one should not be foolish enough to believe they can control it.   Of course, Magical anomalies aren't the only thing that makes life unpredictable. While powerful nations of all kinds can house many decent folk, their leaders are rarely benevolent. Each government in this era believes themselves deserving of power and glory above all others, the pursuit of which is tragicly violent more often than not. This has caused many common people to disassociate from their homelands, leaving to find new opportunities as pioneers and adventurers. Whether you live as a soldier of The Muspelheim Empire, a crusader of The Oswaldian Church's Orchestra, or even just a bartender aboard a traveling airship restaurant, you can count on one thing: Life is going to be crazy.
