Raehali
The Raehalis are a species of lizard that grow to about the size of sheep. They have a strip of silky fibers growing on their back that can be stiffened and launched at threats. Once launched, the fibers remain stiff.
Basic Information
Anatomy
4 limbs, a tail, two eyes, large ears that extend from the top of the head.
Genetics and Reproduction
Three months after mating, the female Raehali will lay up to six eggs. The babies hatch five months later and are left to survive on their own. Twitterpating season varies based on the habitat.
Growth Rate & Stages
When Raehalis are born, they are covered in sharp spines from head to tail to protect against predators. After a year, they lose the sharp spines and develop the strip of silky fibers that stretches from the back of their neck to the base of their tail.
Ecology and Habitats
There are a few different kinds of Raehalis. They can live anywhere from deserts to forests. They don’t do well in colder climates.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Raehalis eat mostly meat, but they supplement with plants and insects. The desert Raehalis hunt primarily at night, but the other subspecies hunt during the day.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The silky fibers are often harvested to create clothes and other textiles. Sometimes parties will go out and scare the Raehalis to get them to launch spines, which are then collected and used to make needles and jewelry and the like.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Sight, smell, touch. No taste.
Lifespan
Seven years
Average Weight
120 pounds
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Coloring ranges from brown to green, depending on the habitat. Young Raehalis can adjust their coloring to blend in with their surroundings, but by about 8 months of age their color sets and they are no longer able to change it.
