Skill Challenges

A skill challenge is a scenario such as a chase against an escaping foe or an escape from a collapsing dungeon where skill checks are rolled to contribute towards a required amount of successes to pass the skill challenge. They are a way to add tension to a situation where multiple skill checks would usually be made towards a common goal.   A skill challenge is comprised of a set amount of possible successes and failures, and ends when one of those possible outcomes are filled. While the amount of successes are dictated by a variety of factors depending on the challenge, the amount of failures is always three. The following restrictions also apply to skill challenges:
  • A DC of 15 is standard and is altered only in specific challenges such as those found in the salvage and crafting rules.
  • All PCs must have made a roll before a PC may make a second, and they must be proficient in the roll.
  • No skill can be used by the group more than once. They get to pick the skills they roll, so long as they justify how that is relevant.
