Double Helix

Every bit of daily life has changed in the past fifty years, and you’d be lucky to find someone who has any semblance of good in them. Y’think the President /really/ wants to give food to the homeless? Or fix the water pipes in Flint? They’ve been spieling that bullshit for decades. It’s a ploy to get gullible voters to vote for them. Even if they cared, they couldn’t do a thing. They’re too busy working on signing documents to fill more pockets. Whose pockets? The suits, the fat cats, or just simply the ‘stiffs.’ Shit, you might as well label them the government of this country. For example, go to the Helios Security website and see how much money they’ve donated to Williams. Here’s the thing, that’s how much they’re willing to *show* to the public. Who knows how much money they’ve dumped in the background.”   Bronson leans back in his chair, combing his hair back with his hands, a shifting glance from the camera to the open window that had been letting in some cool air. His attention returned to the camera, though only for a moment, as he returned to the suited journalist sitting not far from him. “And what about you?” He asked with a dead-pan stare that pierced through the journalist. “Does anyone ask you how you like America or the world for that matter? How much money are you getting from Channel 17? Is it enough to cover your basic expenses? Is it nice to ask questions to homeless veterans? Do you even give a fuck about the people you ta-” Both Bronson and the camera gets cut off, with security coming in to escort him out soon after.   Welcome to 2048 AD. Things got a hell of a lot worse, and technology evolved and got adopted fast. Humans have become augmented with corporate tech, cars swapped out with electric variants that overpower their gasoline ancestors, and coal plants replaced faulty, often failing nuclear power plants. States like Florida and Hawaii have seen the worst parts of rising sea levels. Every island of Hawaii is submerged, with some features of the volcanoes sticking out of the water. Florida has had its southern landmass separated into smaller islands, with very little living on these small abandoned masses. Crime, greed, a dying world.
