Severos
The land of Severos is one of barren planes and open sky, broken up only by dark scrub and thorny growths. Of the few fixed settlements there are two types. Along the coast are the reinforced Imperial outposts, and dotted across the deathlands are ancient fortresses rising from the landscape. These bastions of safety with crumbling walls and ramshackle buildings are protected by arcane wards. The lands are swept by winds that blow in an almost constant gale. beyond these howling gales there is little to mark the savagery and unpredictability of other lands. In the stretches between the wards and lightning barriers you still find tribes of Severosi roaming the plains and hunting the animals that live there.
Climate this land is one that is constantly plagued by the winds that sweep it. these as little more than a gentle sea breeze in the coastal regions on a good day, but as you head further in land this becomes more unpredictable and intense. It is not uncommon for the unwary to suddenly be buffeted by winds that blind and sting. The most extreme forms of this come in grand tornadoes that rise up from the planes and will destroy any life in their path. All the free tribes of Severos have venerated whisperers that read the signs and keep them from the death they promise as they traverse their homes. One of the most peculiar phenomenon of this land is out in the wastes night is much more discernible than the day. across the wide open sky can often be seen a ghostly shimmering dance of colours. The tribes travel and hunt by this light, reading the auras for any portents and warnings it might offer.
Wildlife The most dominant species of that roams the lands is the Severosi Horse. Tall and powerful, these horses fear no spirits and are an excellent breed for war. The Severosi often lead their entire lives traveling in great bands upon the backs of these horses. beyond this many great beasts roam the lands, the eagle, Bison, deer, and wolf. Some of these beasts are attacked and drained of life by spirits, only to be roused as husks of their former lives. For the unwary the spirits of Severos have also been known to drain the life from humans aswell. woe betold the tribe that does not set a watch or clear its lands of malevolent spirits.
Culture Many of the Severosi that live beyond the cities retain their independence from the Empire, living in close knit tribes. Each tribe will often practice different religious and familial beliefs. Some will go to war for the imperium or raid other tribes, others will focus on simple trade or religious observations. To depict the people of this land as to be lacking in the industry or knowledge of the other lands is to grossly underestimate the resourcefulness of their people. The cities that spread this land are each protected by complex wards known only to a few of the wisest of the tribes. Armour and weapons are invented and forged to aid in the fight against the spirits of the land and new methods of hunting the living and dead alike.
The Imperium ever present across the Shattered Isles holds little sway in the interior of this nation, but along its ports it trades, taxes, and recruits. Mercenaries such as The Silver Nails are invaluable for the Imperial Military and for those wealthy enough to afford them.
