The Orchard Of Bones

A once grand forest of mangroves sat along the western edges of The Glass Desert, now lying as bleached and as brittle as the skeletons of it's former inhabitants-- the unrelenting suns of the eastward desert have turned the green, vibrant seashore into a chalky-white hellscape. Saltwater from the Donlirr Sea batters the coastline, taking with it the dried remains of previous plant life and evermore encroaching on the sands of the Desert.
Desecrated soil and nomadic journals tell a story of an oasis of grass and water, protected by the imposing mangroves and used by all creatures big and small; but no longer. Now what remains is a faded memory of past prosperity, and a terrible reminder of the unfortunate fates that fall upon those caught in the calamities of Serotonia.

Geography

Serving as a natural barrier to the crashing waves of the sea, the ground's steady incline kept the saline water from reaching the grasses higher up along the terrain-- as well as providing shade from the sweltering sun for the trees below. The mangroves below struck their roots within seabed and shoreline, anchoring themselves against the tide and giving shelter to the less-resilient halophytes living amongst the orchard in it's prime. Grasses from above collected the night's dew into natural indents in the soil, turning low points into puddles, and puddles into pools; giving roaming animals a place to drink before braving the desert once more.
For decades this symbiosis sustained a small pocket of life within the ever-empty southwest reaches of the Desert, only to succumb to the unrelenting heat after the waves of the Donlirr Sea begun eroding the soil-- culminating in the destruction of the mangrove's anchors and shade leaving them exposed to the elements. This was, effectively, the beginning of the end of the forest, and over time it began to dry and wilt away, leaving only sun-bleached wood and lifeless roots, caked in a layer of saline.

Fauna & Flora

The orchard's regular inhabitants still walked to their former watering hole, only to find a collapsed and dry hellscape that spelt doom for all who travelled to it. They came for water, but left with nothing-- and just like the mangroves before them the animals too began to slowly be drained of their life force, dying at the place they once flourished in. Turning to bone. Blending in with the chalk-white forest surrounding them, and giving the damnable orchard it's name.
