The reason why those with magic cannot be properly resurrected is discovered by a small team of letumancers and victumancers working together. They resurrected a wide variety of people, both with magic and those without, finding out that the stronger magic one had in life, the more madness when they are resurrected. This leads them to the realization that the magic doesn't return with the resurrection, and the madness is a result of the gaping hole in the person's soul overwhelming them with a feeling of wrongness that does not waver. No attempts to heal this work. There is an attempt to find where the magic is, with the result that it is recycled into the world and other, new, mancers. As a result of this experiment, a law is placed into effect that letumancers are forbidden from resurrecting other mancers, in deference to their soul's comfort.
