The Origin of Momma Mae

The Second Age of Judges swept through the world upending most if not all of civilized society. Those that knew the truth of the matter went into hiding. Those left behind suffered at the whims of the system. One such family of note took matters into their own hands and brought up a young girl who became one of the founders of the White Robed Army.   Here is the story of Maevis Campbell.   The frigid winds of winter blustered through Kildaire county battering frozen lines and rendering homes without power. Instead of driving home, Raina set up candles and fired up the hearth for the Campbell family. She also brought forth the Advent wreath from the kitchen and lit three candles - two purple and the pink - indicating the week of Joy, or Gaudete has arrived. Father, the mother, and her two children gathered around to the inviting family area and prayed for the bitter storm to pass. Mother passed the rosary beads around as they went. Raina enjoyed these few moments of togetherness and joined in. Times like these kept her working for the family for ten years with no raise in wages.   A frantic knock on the door disrupted the event. The neighbor across the street wet from the 100-yard slog shrugged off the relentless snow and hail mix.   "Hi, we are.. in a bit of trouble.."   Raina let her in immediately, "Susan? What gives?"   Susan shows up at the door, which meant severe disaster for anyone involved. Plain as the day she is devoted to the old musical singer Susan Boyle. Not just a fan, but the president of the super-secret group of the elite worshipper's fan club of Susan Boyle. The one person who goes to work for Scottish Cabinet Secretary two years ago as Salid Yousaf and now has transitioned to a 75% likeness of 50-year-old Susan Boyle. That kind of odd neighbor.   She pats the powder off her arms and stomps her feet, "It's Alex."   Raina looked to her employer from behind the visitor with a warning glare, "Good Heavens, dear. Is he ok?"   The head of the family, Craig Campbell, knew what was going to happen next. "Need some help with the fireplace, then?" He gathered up his coat and boots. "Afraid Alex is ill. Never seen him like this. He is in agony."   "You didn't call an ambulance?" Susan looked the moment he said it. Everyone knew you could get a pizza delivery faster than an ambulance in Scotland.   "Right." the Campbells left the cozy home to check in on Alex. They found the partner, a transvestite Alex Trebek impostor, in his bed with a soaked sheet covering his spread legs. The family ushered around the panting celebrity like a ring of a security detail.   "Mary and Joseph - are you in.. labor?" Mother Campbell didn't go to nursing school, but she held several degrees in childbearing.   Sure enough, the dynamic duo never thought that the possibility of pregnancy could occur when two adults lived together for some time. Alex, formerly known a few years ago to her family as Alexa, was a portly creature and never thought hormones would fail in the birth control department. Susan started crying.   She wasn't the only one. Under the sheets, a baby wailed in unison with her father- er Susan.   "What in the bloody hell?" Mr. Trebek had no clue what had just transpired. "What is that thing doing here? Good God, Susan, there is a baby here!"   "Um, The Campbells are here, dear. We are going to handle -"   "Susan, did I stutter? There. Is. A. Baby. in my bed."   Mrs. Campbell and Raina could not stand it any longer and whipped the sheets away. Maevis was sputtering up fluid and appeared blue. They tied off the cord and cleaned her up. Eventually, they freed the newborn from the Jeopardy host and starting caring for her as the bickering pair took things to the next room. "Hey Mae!" the little girl called out to the infant. No one knows why, but it just fits. The Campbells gave her the name Maevis. They knew the tiny infant had to be adopted into the family. Father Campbell took a deep breath and nodded in agreement. How to make this happen rides on the diplomacy skill set he acquired throughout his years in service. One of them is clearly out of sorts, while the other works for the government. Never mind, this should be a walk in the park.   Susan stormed out of the den area, nearly knocking Mr. Campbell down. "Alex is not listening again! Please, Robert, talk some sense in him." She made herself a drink. "It's a whiskey. You want some?" Robert shook his head and let it a sigh before going into the lion's den. Alex was blood-stained, but for someone who has just given birth, he was doing quite fair. He sat on a couch and jammed a pillow between his legs. "Robert, I don't know what to do. I don't want- I can't - I don't need this."   Robert consoled as best he could, "No one will ever know. We can take of this for you."   Alex shot a glance, "You mean?"   "We will adopt the baby into the family."   Alex let out a sigh, "Oh for Christ's sake, I thought you were going to drown the creature! Yes. Yes, please take it away! "   "Can you sign over parental rights to us? "   She began to weep.   "Alex, you sure about this? The kids have already given her a name." That didn't help the flood of tears, but it did prompt him to open a dusty lockbox hidden behind a dresser. The chubby game show host impostor called Robert over and spoke in her natural voice for the first time in years.   "Robert, I know we are imposing on you. I have thought about children recently, but Susan is furious about the whole thing, being in Cabinet and all. It just... Looks awful for her right now." she wiped off the snot and dislocated the mustache, but continued opening the lockbox.   Alexa handed him two heavy rings. They were identical in shape - two large hands holding a heart with a crown on top. "Please, Robert, take these and give them to.." she broke down again, but with happiness, "Maevis, you say your kids called her?" Robert welled up. "No, we can't-" "I insist - these are family heirlooms passed on her decades. They are .. um.. called.." she blew her nose. "Claddagh Rings" Alexa nodded. "You promise me to raise... Maevis for me?" Robert nodded. "Swear it." "I swear." "Things rings mean promise or loyalty or something like that. Don't want St. Patrick or the druid gods to be mad at ya, yes?" They both laughed. "Maevis, it is. I know she will be in good hands. For heteros, you all are a good lot. Promise me you won't speak of us - like, ya know."   Of course.   They took Maevis home and called her their own. She grew wise and witty - she had her mother's sass and her father's fortitude, but she never knew of her birth. The legendary Lady of the White Robes had quite the beginning!

Claddagh rings

  • The origins of the ring come from a humble Galway fishing village but it is now one of the most recognizable pieces of jewelry in the world as men and women from dozens of nations eagerly look for the ideal ring to suit their status. The Claddagh ring meaning is all about love, loyalty, and friendship. The two hands represent friendship, a heart symbolizes love and the crown on top is for loyalty. The ring can be worn on different fingers or hands, depending on status.
  • How To Wear a Claddagh Ring

The Claddagh Ring has been the traditional wedding ring in Irish culture since the 17th century. There are four basic meanings depending on how the ring is worn: Single: You should wear the ring on your right hand with the heart facing outwards.   Relationship: You should wear it on your right hand with the heart pointed inwards.   Engaged: You wear it on your left hand with the heart pointing outwards.   Married: You wear it on your left hand with the heart facing inward.

    Tradition

These rings were one of the few valuable possessions they had when making the long journey overseas and were kept as heirlooms. In many cases, a ring was basically a family’s only savings and became a daughter’s inheritance. As a result, there are countless Claddagh rings in the homes of American and Canadian families today.
