Rhyboldt

Rhyboldt is a 16 year old shadow mage from the empire who, 200 years ago, was sealed inside a sword and cursed.   Rhyboldt's long history inside the sword has left him very vulnerable and hurt. He does not have energy, a clear mind, or the ability to control his magic. His physical body has been lost, leaving him with only a weak shadow form. He goes on a long journey of recovery, starting off with no ability to speak and barely any strength to leave the sword. But as time goes on his mental state improves and he can summon a temporary physical form.   In the distant past he was a gleeful agent of chaos, embodying the old tenets of shadow magic, which was healthy disorder. He disrupted the government and systems of power where they were weak or unfair, and really disrupted tradition in his city. He also helped many people who the system hurt.   In the present, he is a vulnerable person. His sense of humour and ability to laugh take time to come back. His personality is almost lost, and something he needs to slowly regain. When he has time to recover, though, his defiant and chaotic personality return. At his best, he is a prankster who works best not by fighting but by disrupting. His enemies cannot fight or carry out schemes when he is throwing every kind of surprise at them. At his worst though, he is overcome by panic attacks and feeling sorry for the way he is. It takes time to deal with those periods.
History In the distant past, shadow and light magic were viewed differently. They were two neutral forces in balance. When the gods of light and shadow were killed, and the emperor took his place as the new god of light, the god of shadow needed a new host. Rhyboldt was chosen, not for his strength with shadow magic but for his vitality and understanding of how chaos is healthy and necessary. It was too much for him though. He was overwhelmed with shadow magic that he couldn't keep a hold of. He became dangerous and unstable and destructive without wanting to be. He was in pain. He already had a sword with a small pocket dimension inside it that could hold magic. After losing a fight incredibly badly with the emperor himself, the current one, he entered his shadow form and retreated into his sword. He lost the fight so bad his mortal form was too far gone, and the emperor cursed him with a light magic spell to remain in the sword and follow the orders of who wields him. He fell unconscious for 200 years   For those years he spent time in magic artifact vaults, used by different warriors, good and bad, and disappeared into legend, until Alistair got a hold of him.
Abilities Rhyboldt was a powerful shadow mage in his youth, but after being chosen by the god of shadow, his powers grew exponentially. He has much more power than control. When used by Alistair, he mainly just launched waves of powerful but uncontrollable shadow magic. After starting his recovery he gained more control. With Vera wielding him, he could make walls, spikes, and more precise shadow attacks. Over time his control grows. He is able to make a false human form and wield his own sword. He can retreat and move through shadows, control shadows with precision, and even use corrupting shadow magic.
