Lucan Aquilus

Lucan is an 18 year old light-magic wielder and knight of the Empire.
Lucan is defined by the way he has internalized the propaganda of the Empire. He believes their conquest is justified and that the emperor can do no wrong. He in fact believes that what is moral is what aligns with the law, even though the law is fallible and manipulated to benefit people in power. This propaganda enforces a strict black and white view of the world, where the law is right and anything challenging the law must be evil. In this way, he views himself as a protector of good, even as he helps the Empire. He tries to be compassionate and understanding, but really isn't. He is the type of person who makes passionate speeches and shallow diplomacy to convince others he's on the side of good, though he won't ever hear what others have to say about him.
During his journey, Lucan sees more and more things that conflict with his black and white worldview, and starts to question the Empire. It is deeply uncomfortable and he tries to force this down at first. Eventually, clear injustices cause him to act against the Empire. Rhyboldt being a kid in need but also a shadow mage, and thus supposedly pure evil, really causes inner conflict.
He isn't much of a strategic thinker, due to his simplified worldview and inexperience with the real workings of the world.
Kind of a burnout gifted kid vibe.

History

Lucan is a teenager from the Empire who somehow got light powers and was elevated to the position of knight. His superiors view him as a valuable pawn to push propaganda for the Empire, as his powers lend credence to their claim that the light god approves of the Emperor.

Abilities

Lucan has access to a wide variety of light powers, but mainly sticks to a select few abilities. He can summon light constructs he has created or been given, and has light construct wings. The items he uses include a large kite shield, a trident, and chains, all of which are gold. His wings are flat and angular, made of many rectangular segments connected at the joint. He can control all of these objects. Making them fly around according to his will is his primary form of attack. He can also fly because he can control his wings in the same way. His wings can also extend and bend in many ways, acting as a strong, durable limbs
He has no enhanced durability or strength, but he is very physically fit. His light magic abilities may grow in scope as the story goes on.
