Thalin Steel and Iron Tools in Nakarado

Description Iron in Nakarado is either of very poor quality if not severely rare. Due to this, the people of Nakarado consider iron from outside of the country to be more valuable than gold. It is found to be stronger, easier to work with, and evidence of extraordinary wealth, if not status.   It has become common practice for the Shogunate to centralize most acquisition of Thalin Iron and Steel to the Capital, Yamarai, denying most gains to the rest of the people. Some equipment is given as gifts to the most loyal of men and women to the Shogun. It is not uncommon for poorer citizens of the Fae Blessed to have never even laid eyes on the iron and steel tools of Thalin beyond hearing the rumors that come with them.   It is rumored that in Thalin, even doors and gates are made out of these metals!

Value

If the citizens were not so compelled to live in harmony, peace, and with honor, it would be perfectly rational to go out of your way to seek out and kill someone in possession of iron equipment. The amount of manhours required to maintain the equipment is negligible, along with how much stronger it is in achieving any given task that is put out for it.   It is considered dishonorable to sell a gift, thus rendering the purchase value of the equipment to be obscenely and relatively high.

Acquisition

Travel to the Thalin Free Trade Zone, it'll be much easier to purchase equipment made of iron for a lifetime's wages. Be careful on your return, as the Shogun seeks to acquire any goods purchased in Thalin and bring it to Yamarai. This severely limits the amount of commerce from the rest of the nation traveling northwest, but the Shogunate deems this acceptable.   Alternatively, if you make good friends with the Shogunate, and have many years of dedicated service and loyalty to lean on, it will often become a gift to you.

Legal Status

The Shogunate has deemed it illegal for the people to own weapons, with exceptions to foreigners and people of Tanalosho. On these grounds, they can confiscate iron and steel weapons with legitimacy. A common practice done by some smarter individuals is to purchase large quantities of farming equipment to return south and reforge them into iron and steel weapons. The craftsmanship is often lacking, as any truly talented craftsmen are relocated to Yamarai, whether they want to or not.   Within the area where the rebellion is occurring, a financial incentive is offered to bring them iron equipment, but otherwise permit people to travel with weapons.
