The Gemlings

Naomsven; The Enlightened Children.

As loud as they are quite; alluring and pious - discrete and deceptive, all of these words define the typically Gemling, or Naomsven in their native tongue. They are as often the carriers of faith and justice as they are the source of chaos and criminality - and they wouldn’t have it any other way. Gemlings are known for their carefree nature and their wonderous skill in manipulating the average person. They are beautiful by default, as they sheen and shine like gemstones in the light. They are discrete as well, and just as easily slip into the dark.   For reference and ideas, the Gemling culture is heavily influenced by ancient Gaelic, Gaulish, Goth and Celtic cultures, and mirror many of their traditions, accents and history. Play as a Gemling if you like to talk, like to get in trouble, and love seeing how far you can push people.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Compared to humans, they are shorter and smaller on average, ranging from ~4-5 ft in height, and around 120-190 lbs in weight. They have a somewhat longer lifespan than humans, between 100-150 years at most. One of the most notable and easily identifiable aspects of Gemlings is their astonishing appearance, going from pale to sometimes almost, but not quite silver, and often have a sheen or glow in a multitude of colors, something that becomes more obvious in sun and moonlight as it enhances the effect, hence the origin of their name. Their hair is similar in many ways, and come in a wide variety of colors. They are also known to be attractive, sometimes unnaturally so, and can grab the attention of about any intelligent creature at will. They also are able to reflexively dim their “glow” when under great stress or when they are intentionally trying not to draw attention to themselves. This, combined with their inherent ability to step lightly, can make the Gemling as discreet as they are desirable. All of this combines to make a very Charming and Graceful character.

Genetics and Reproduction

Similar to Humans and Stonemen, and are capable of breeding with them.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Most facial features of a Gemling are smaller and sharper than a human of similar size. Men can grow beards and other facial hair, but it grows out very short and soft - making it difficult to grow longer facial hair. Eyes and noses are far more pointed than that of humans. Their ears can either have some pointedness to them, or be entirely rounded. They have slightly larger mouths than humans, but their lips are proportional to the face and not overly out of place. Their hair, as a species, grows short and slowly, making it uncommon to see any gemling with hair longer than neck length. Their hair colors are dynamic and can come in a large variety of colors, though typically are matching or a direct contrast to their skin color.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Primarily found in the riverlands living among humans and through most of the forests and jungles where they can find large trees to build shrines at. They are often closely related to both criminal elements and religious institutions.

Average Intelligence

Same intelligence scale as humans and other humanoids. They have a natural grace and charm about them, though, and are good with words.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Their naming conventions are based solely around gaelic, gallic(german), and slavic traditions. They can contain MANY syllables and meanings, and are normally religious in nature.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The source of the Gemling name is firmly rooted in their appearance, as their skin goes from pale to nearly metallic, come in a variety of colors, and have a sheen or glow to them, something far more apparent if sun or moonlight as it amplifies the effect. They often wear their hair in knots or tails, though occasionally let their hair flow if they can get it to grow long enough. Their skin "glow" is an entirely reflexive phenomena, and will dim greatly when threatened, in trauma, in fear or trying to be unnoticed. They have minor interest in body modifications such as tattoos, and they are popular among the forest dwelling Gemlings.
