The official foundation of Lemay at the end of the War of Seven.

In modern Andellion, there is an expression, "Lemayan's friend", used to denote someone of exceptional skill in diplomacy, or someone so unwilling to insult that they possess no backbone at all. Lemayans are indeed known to be particularly prickly about everything and nothing at all, the most notorious case being in 1578 A.B. when a family declared a blood feud with another over a spilled glass of milk. Due to the Lemayan's strong sense of honour, loyalty, and fragile self-esteem, this conflict degenerated into a full-out civil war within weeks, and the Kerdovan Watch in its quasi-entirety had to be called in lest the Lemayans drag other countries into their pettiness.   The Lemayans' feeling of inferiority, from which undoubtedly stem their fragile self-image and their prickliness, finds its origins during the War of Seven. The land which would become Lemay was at the time nothing more than war-torn fields, bloodied streams, swampland and burned forests Thienath, Tereban, Athor and Kyan fought over for some reason the histories have chosen to forget. Indeed, while most kingdoms in Andellion can claim a glorious and blood-soaked past through their history in the War of Seven, Lemay has no such claims, and therefore claims a series of imagined epic feats to pad its rather short and lackluster history. Lemayans will claim that one day during the War of Seven, a Herald came down from the Light Realms and declared their land to be the land of a new Kingdom, Lemay, which will be a land for all justice and a model among kingdoms (blah, blah, blah, insert other meaningless and self-aggrandizing prattle here). The true story is that during the confusion of the war, a man known to historians as Agnan Repentigny, then a common thief, took control of the small hamlet of Ruinan, a town built in the fragments of Tentarren-Empire era ruins, and declared himself King under false pretexts. Repentigny's goal was to steal his new land's money through taxes, but he was eventually found out as a fraud at the end of the War and deposed of. He was reinstated as King with the help of Kerdovan himself, who had met the man and had decided that, even though Repentigny was a thief, he was a competent one and a competent ruler. Hence, Repentigny became trapped in the role of the first King of Lemay and became mockingly known as the Agnan the Fraud or Agnan the Thief. The Kings and Queens of Lemay today are still his descendants, making the DeRepen line one of the oldest-ruling royal lines of all modern Andellion, after the Fallorens.
