Session 7: The Sea of Swords

General Summary

After securing the beach the Aki and the heroes prepared to set out onto the Sea of Swords to hunt the Ikuchi and Graahl explained that their plan was to bait the Ikuchi with the barrels of chum they had carried with them as well as a spell to create turbulence in the water. When the ikuchi showed itself they would drink a potion, called merlixer, which would help them to fight in the water. The party set out, leaving the moa, Eli and Riyo's horse, Nobu, behind with the rest of the equipment that wasn't sea worthy.
Olaf steered the tortailian through the waves skillfully, following Graahls lead for about 15 miles until they reached a point where the crystal clear ocean dropped suddenly away. Bellow them was a ship wreck split in half on either side of a dark hole in the sea bed. The group fanned out and Tenelth emptied out a barrel of chum into the ocean, above the hole while B'njiyo cast control water, simulating a thrashing in the ocean.
The hunting expedition waited, watching the ocean for about half an hour. While everyone was focused on the thrashing area of water, the ikuchi struck from behind Graahl's tortailian, arching into the air and loosing a stream of adhesive oil onto them, pulling them along in its wake. While their mount fled. Riyo, Olaf and Westra drunk down their potion and felt a warm sensation blooming below the skin in their legs. Looking down they watched as their legs fused together, a layer of scales enveloping them and fins rupturing through, developing into fish-like tails, and gills opened at their necks. They dived into the water. Riyo and Olaf moved to engage the ikuchi, Westra threw a rope to help the struggling Aki while, Red and Esteriel provided covering fire in the form of arrows and frostbite spells.
Westra managed to pull Graahl free of the Ikuchi who immediately turned to help free his wife. Riyo and Olaf continued to hack at the monster and Tenelth and the hunters on his tortaillian joined the barrage of fire. Riyo and Olaf continued to wear down the ikuchi which released a roar as its body became coated in a thick layer of ice. The ikuchi made a sudden lunge for Olaf, tearing a near mortal wound into him. Pushing themselves harder the heroes managed to defeat the creature, rescuing Graahl and B'njiyo.
While the remaining hunters secured the ikuchi corpse to the two remaining tortaillians, the party made use of their water breathing abilities to explore the sunken ship. Riyo and Olaf managed to find and retrieve an ancient amphora from the wreckage and Olaf took samples of the algae growing on the ships wood to give to Esteriel. Esteriel took a sample of purple kelp to study later.
Returning to the beach they watched as the Aki quickly and deftly butchered the 100ft long sea serpent. While they watched Graahl told them about the various uses they would put the body too and was convinced to give the party some of the teeth and use some of the resources gained to make some equipment for the party. As the evening pressed in the Aki hoisted a large slab of the ikuchi meat onto the fire to feast in celebration of their successful hunt.
