Iocrayor(Magic)
The Terminology of Iocrayor
Iocrayor is the word for magic in Old Eskan. It is commonly used to describe the powers that the Obelisk gives out where as the Baador word for magic 'Voshil' describes someone who has been given abilities by a deity or god this word comes from the name of a children's story character from Laaton. These terms can be used interchangeably unless a magic user is telling you how they recived their powers.Sources of Iocrayor
The Obelisk
The first disprovable source of Iocrayor is The Obelisk a black stone spire reaching 17ft into the sky some pray to it, others ignore it and others try to study it. It functions like a like a heart, it pulses Iocrayor into the world around it, but despite this, not all beings are equally capable of bending these energies to their will.Gods, Demons, Deities and Wishes
Recently I was relaxing and I over heard a man claim he had been blessed by a god with Voshil. The madman I thought he should be taken away and locked up in Devil's Gate. He started talking to a woman showing off how he could make windows and doors shut at will. A mere party trick! The wind could blow them open and closed! Then he came up to me and told me my name. I had never met this man before. He then proceeded to tell me how I will get news of my wife dying in a horrible accident tomorrow morning. I never believed that man because I was a natural philosopher but when I did revive that letter in the black envelope I knew he was telling the truth.-Excerpt from a natural philosopher's diary published as part of a study. This source of magic comes from beings beyond the material plane gifting it to those who are worthy, who have outsmarted them or have entered into a bond with them. This type of magic has no science backing it up and as such many do not believe in it's existence.
Iocrayi
Also known as relics these objects have been imbued with powers allowing people to use the magi within with more control and less risk to themselves but with less power. Natural philosophers are still studying how they work and the Eskanan army wishes to use Iocrayi to strengthen it further encase of a rebellion.
