Kystercite

"Hairless folk see tomorowness of Kystercite with great good... and many fear. Tektor did good teaching but still much caution. He see's artifice or magic curiosity yes, Squik see great new future potential. Much sad that Tektor not share vision of Squik but Squik make new bright future yes." - Squik, Kyster-Ratto
Kystercite also known as Ichor by a few, the material was first discovered in small amounts in some caves near the Orbis Republic City of Korhan, the northern coal mines of Amberwood Village, and the Standbrad Republic's capital Bokhagrad.

Background

Characteristics

Kystercite appears to be a large crystal commonly bathed in a sickly green light, protruding from a chunk of some other mineral or the soil. The brighter the glow the more "charged" it is with energy. When dormant it is a dark green solid. There are variants of other colors.

Uses

Since Kystercite leeches energy from its host, it has often been used as a sort of energy storage. Kystercite is also an amplifier of energy, the process by which it draws energy from its surroundings such as light, heat, and more can be triggered thus the energy output is often higher than the input. Due to the high amounts of energy that it can contain, it has been used in Artificer machinery or Magical spell work to create basic matter.   In addition, many factions utilize a wide variety of Kystercite-based weapons, such as energy weapons powered by Kystercite, and even raw shards of Kystercite fired at high velocity.   Some mutated by Kystercite infection have been known to use it to amplify their spell work. Essentially using the crystal to focus their arcane prowess substituting it for material components of spells. This has been a recent development.

Economic impact

Due to its numerous useful properties, Kystercite is arguably one of the most valuable natural resource in Delinore.   The Orbis Republic has recently used Kystercite for funding. During the First Maldor Contact, the Republic opened trade lines with the Magocracy of Maldor and assets were believed to be more than 255.2 trillion Platinum Bars, most likely due to its control over global Kystercite supplies.   Confederacy also benefited from Kystercite as a resource, though more covertly. Most within the organization consider Kystercite to be an environmental plague that ultimately needs to be eradicated, but some have argued for more aggressive exploitation of Kystercite. Much of its rapid growth over the years is attributed to usage of Kystercite but officially the Confederacy sees Kystercite as a threat as some of its cities were infected and became large spires of Kystercite.

Composition and types

Kystercite Corporia

Kystercite Corporia, or simply "green Kystercite", was the first identified and most common Kystercite variant.   Often found in mines growing on or around materials that are high in energy density such as oil shale, coal, and crude oil. The earliest discovery would often be due to accidentally striking the gem with a pickaxe or a drill. This caused a transfer of energy into the crystal and it immediately reacting by either fully absorbing it and glowing brighter, or if the crystal was charged over time, a sudden and almost always catastrophic release of energy. This was also suspected to be one of its means of spread as the crystals exploding when force is applied would send it flying into objects and creatures.

Kystercite Deliora

Kystercte Deliora or blue Kystercite was a discovery of the Artificer Drathvan Deliora. It was unclear when or where exactly it was discovered but it was during the events of The Triesian War, blue Kystercite crystals were discovered and it expanded Ser Deliora's search for a source of energy for his homeland of Maldor.   It is much denser than Kystercite Corporia; however, this higher energy density also has the benefit of it being much more stable and less infective. Unlike Corporia, it does not imbed itself into living matter but just soil similar to plant-life. It is noted that this strain only grows in certain areas regardless of the energy density of the material around it. There is a pattern in their growth and it is suspected that Kystercite Corporia mutates into Kystercite Deliora when Corporia grows in areas with natural leylines of magic. This is further supported when Kystercite found from the wreckage of the Maldor Skyclave turned into Kystercite Deliora despite having received no shipments of Kystercite Deliora.   The blue crystals also shape similarly to humanoids, the victims of Vernox Deliora.

Ichor

Ichor is the supposed original form of Kystercite. It is a iridescent and thick liquid. The only notable records of this would be from scattered visions of the God Wars where the wounds of the Gods spill Ichor and they seemingly dry up into a clear crystal.

Kystercite Draco

Mostly unconfirmed rumors talk about Kystercite growing on the stumps of the Eternal Blue Dragon's wings. These crystals seem to be mostly clear to light blue and crackle with untold energy. It may just be other crystals but it is suspected to be Kystercite in origin as the Eternal Blue Dragon is unable to regenerate its wings.   Many adventurers have sought to gather more detail but nearly all come back with inconclusive information as it is too dangerous to approach the dragon.
