Great Cities of scholars

The Ortysian city states are among the oldest human settlements founded in the world, rivalling the cities of the Istrosi coast. Long ago, migrators from the Orayan mountains left old Ortysia, what is now known as Kypros, fleeing tyrant kings who had outlawed the practice of magic as a destructive and chaotic force. These northward migrating peoples were among the among the intellectuals of old Ortysia as well as refugees, political opponents of tyrants and other unfortunate people forced to flee, these groups of people were led by powerful wizards who were able to navigate a harsh and untamed world full of predatory beasts.
In just a generation, multiple prosperous city states were formed and they had already begun to develop new ideas of government which are still followed today. Each city varied from democracy, to republics, to parliaments of wizards. In at least one city wizards were given supremacy and upmost trust by their people. When Kypriot scouts found these cities, they prepared to burn the cities to the ground for their defiance but the Ortysians with newfound strength and pride defended their homes valiantly and won their freedom. A hard won culture of individual freedom and self improvement is hugely important in Ortysian society being the utmost value held by all Ortysians followed closely by the virtues of knowledge, the arcane gifts of Sol.

Naming Conventions Every Ortysian has a first name, a middle name consisting of the fathers name in the case of a son or the mothers name in the case of a daughter or an ancestors name followed by "-Os" followed by the name of their personal familial clan or 'house'

Stats

Age Ortysians live to the age of 50-75 years. Ortysians who live to the age of 40 gain a bonus +1 to their dexterity and wisdom while their feebler bodies take a -1 to their strength.
Alignment Ortysians tend to follow their own path, whether it be one of law or of anarchy. They are usually neutral, following complex philosophies of morals

Language Ortysians speak Ortysian. They can choose two additional languages to learn
