Deghrom

Solaryus burns bright.

The world began thousands of years after the Sun formed in the vast shadow of the void. Solaryus, it was named and it rebuked the abyss and opted to create more, to fill the vast void until it was eventually no more, then finally it could rest. It began with the creation of a material world, a huge flat plate that covered a vastness of empty space, this was made of the long blue ocean, the first physical place to ever exist.   From the ocean, Solaryus raised mountains, some where left standing while the rest were flattened and formed like clay into the northern and southern continents of Hybaura and Istros, this is at least all the lands that are known to us. Deghrom, the world we know was connected by the ocean to many more places in days long past, however now it is all isolated by the great ice walls that have been raised.   Deghrom as we know it was still far from complete, it was a barren land, only ocean and rock and mist existed, so Solaryus formed, from pieces of himself, the Gods of Deghrom, to help him finish his creation. Chief among these was Khelus, first made, architect of the sky, a dome which protects the world from the encroaching abyss that unconsciously spreads, trying to cover all things. He created the primordials, the stone giants that were made of pieces of the continents and set them to work finishing the landscape of the world, dividing plains between mountains, digging out lakes and filling them with water.

Work of the Gods

Khelus, in the meantime organized his siblings and sent them to work. He used Ruz as his messenger between himself, Solaryus and the Gods. Uncontent with such a lowly role, Ruz would weave powerful aspects into random places in the world, creating strange wellsprings of magic or anomalous zones that baffle scholars today with their nonsense. These small alterations were of no major consequence, however, and the world continued to be made as it should.   It began with Glethelar, who planted seeds strong enough to crush stone into dirt and sand from which trees and grass and all plants and vegetation would spring up from, working together and against each other in an ingenious ecosystem. With this new matter to support more life, she created beasts and insects and sea life to feed upon her life and in some cases, each other. After perfecting her ecosystem, she chose a group of primordials to adopt as her own and altered them to become like her first creation, her trees. This group, who inhabit the forests of the Deghrom, are now called Glethondrim, or better known by their more common moniker of ent.   It was at this time, when the world became fit to live in breathe in, that Solaryus began to will sentient races into existence. He provided living stones for the Gods to work with, Khelus began by creating the forms of elves. He placed them in four corners of Deghrom, ready to awaken. Glethelar would later on create an offshoot of these elves to serve her, these would be known as wood elves or wild elves. Man, dwarves and gnomes would be designed at this stage as well, however they were awoken much later, after the world was done being made. This is why elf rhetoric sometimes states 'we saw the world be made'.   Next came Voldur, who created symbiosis. Who taught the wolves to become a pack, the lions a pride and the mortals a tribe. Velethuil invented the common cause and several morals and a hundred primordial groups. He showed them language so that they could communicate in a thousand different forms. Velethuil created common causes as well as rivalry, politics and trade, a system that all races we know today take part in as naturally as breathing. At the same time, he worked with the Gods to use their consciousness as templates for mortals. Khelus and perhaps Solaryus contributed toward the High Elves while Glethelar contributed toward the Wood Elves.   Grottel crushed rock together, combined elements and created new minerals of earth. He placed deposits of iron, gems, gold and hundreds of other materials including the legendary Invictamite. All of this, Grottel decided, would be useless unless mortals had the knowledge necessary to make anything out of these materials. It was then that he created the gift of knowledge, higher learning, the capacity to understand what only the gods could, or at least a fraction of it. When his time to create was nearing its end, he contributed his consciousness as a template to give unto the dwarves and gnomes who would prefer to live underground, however Ruz interrupted the gnomes in some minor way that is unknown to both us and Grottel.   Ghuras was not the least of the gods in any respect but in his meticulous work, he was the last god to finish his contribution to the world. He altered every slight detail in every biome and began to implement the race of man. He carefully studied and altered each group, placing them in a variety of places so that they would develop in different ways. He worked strengths and weaknesses into each group and made it so they could combine and develop into complex cultures and people. Because of Ghuras, mankind was the most widespread sentient race on all of Deghrom but this would come with consequences once time was implemented to the world.   Solaryus knew that all the souls on Deghrom would one day ascend into the afterlives and oversouls of himself and his gods. He decided that all things would decay while other things could grow or be remade. This would make for a long cycle of renewal and perfection until everything in the universe was without flaw, a process that would take trillions of years to complete. Elves were given long lifespans so that they could fulfil their divine duties, gnomes and dwarves were given somewhat shorter but still long lifespans so that they could perfect their structures and studies. Humans, however, being the most widespread were given, in comparison to the others, very short lifespans, a decision which would invoke the ire of Ghuras.

Ghuras' Rebellion

Ghuras was angered and disagreed with that Solaryus had decided and demanded that humanity be given a fair span, though he was ignored as Solaryus will was final. Enraged, Ghuras threatened to take humanity with him to conquer the heavens, words which sparked immediate retaliation by Khelus. What followed was a violent struggle known as the war in heaven between Ghuras and Khelus. Each god would appeal to the pantheon and try to gain support and while some gods, such as Glethelar was sympathetic to Ghuras and other gods like Grottel were stalwart and loyal to Khelus, they dared not to intervene for the battle was already costing the land of Deghrom.    During the battle, the small lake of Ormic in the middle of Deghrom was blasted open wide into a sea which separated it into the two continents. In the end, Khelus was victorious as he had the advantage of Solaryus on his side, he forced Ghuras to submit, however, Solaryus was moved by the devotion to mankind that Ghuras showed. Humanity was then granted some privileges' such as some select few being able to live longer lives if they showed promise to their people. There are a myriad of other small blessings that were bestowed upon mankind but only those who are great enough may be blessed with them.   Of all the blessings mankind received, Ghuras' blessing of ambition was the greatest. It has propelled humanity into the creation of great realms. Mankind is always advancing in their arts of war, statecraft and propagation so that they do not fall behind one another. It is this drive that is said will make mankind the new rulers and shepherds of the world, one day surpassing even the elves, a notion that the High Elves consider to be completely ridiculous, however that is still a story for time to tell.
