Galeb Duhr

The galeb duhr is a curious boulder-like creature with appendages that act as hands and feet. These intelligent beings are very large and slow-moving. They live in rocky or mountainous areas where they can feel the earth power and control the rocks around them.   When not moving it looks like part of the terrain it lives in.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are made up entirely of nonsedimentary rock, typically matching the predominate rock types where they live.

Genetics and Reproduction

Galeb duhr have no concept of gender or reproductive organs, and they don't mate. However, when they die, typically either from old age or lack of food, their body crumbles to dust, leaving behind three differently-sized lumps, which are infant galeb duhr.

Growth Rate & Stages

Infant galeb duhr are indistinguishable from boulders for a century. During that time, they need to be in an environment with geologically fresh stone in order to grow steadily. Once they mature, they grow their limbs, open their eyes and start moving. The largest of the three siblings takes over their parent's former territory, if they're still in that area.   They are full grown between 500 to 2,000 years, depending on the geological terrain of their home. They reach new lifestages every 500 years after they reach adulthood, becoming slightly larger and more durable.

Ecology and Habitats

Typical territory size for a galeb duhr is 1-4 square miles. They have the entire area memorized, but spend much of their time sitting still in a nice spot and passively observing.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They feed on the elemental power of the Plane of Earth.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Galeb duhr are fairly solitary creatures, preferring to live with a few of their own kind, and none of any other kind, including earth elementals. When approached, a galeb duhr is liable to avoid the encounter by disappearing into the ground. If chased or otherwise irritated, however, a galeb duhr does not hesitate to fight the intruder.
Average Height

False Appearance. While the galeb duhr remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal boulder.   Rolling Charge. If the galeb duhr rolls at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a slam attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 7 (2d6) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. (30 ft. speed when rolling, 60 ft. rolling downhill)

Actions

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage.   Animate. Boulders (1/Day). The galeb duhr magically animates up to two boulders it can see within 60 feet of it. A boulder has statistics like those of a galeb duhr, except it has Intelligence 1 and Charisma 1, it can't be charmed or frightened, and it lacks this action option. A boulder remains animated as long as the galeb duhr maintains concentration, up to 1 minute (as if concentrating on a spell).
