Milja Somerkoski

Milja Somerkoski is an Imagese author known for her mystery and detective novels. The most popular of these, by far, is her Mikel Mariens series, which follow the exploits of the fictional detective Mikel Mariens. However, she has also authored the Zander Zarins of the Otherworld supernatural mystery trilogy, the standalone Dorota Gaile and the Avisier Emerald, and is currently in talks to write the biography of Josiah Bouchard, the head of the Raingarde Detective Agency.

The Mikel Mariens series follows an Imagese detective of the same name living abroad in a fictionalized version of Aurore. While initially a hard, grounded mystery series with little overarching story, since The Rat of Bellino the novels have taken on an overarching narrative, as well as slowly mixed in more saucy romantic elements to correspond with Mikel taking up the harmonica.

The Zander Zarins trilogy follows an adolescent dragonborn, the eponymous Zander Zarins, suffering from amnesia, who becomes the apprentice to an aging detective in Mormelune. However, his exploits quickly lead him down a trippy, supernatural path as he enters the Otherworld in pursuit of a fey criminal. The remainder of the series revolves around him both unraveling the complex plots extending from his initial encounter with the fey, and his attempts to return home and regain his memory.
