Session 08 Report
General Summary
[session 08: 19.03.2024]
22nd of Hammermoon / Deepwinter, 1489, Year of the warrior princess
the moon is waxing
The dust gets in your lungs as you follow the footprints down the cellar, until Viridian gets stuck with an arrow to the (not knee) shoulder, piercing through muscle but thankfully very little else. In the dim light, you notice holes in the wall, through which several arrows have been shot. The place seems to be trapped, and you decide to proceed more carefully from now on.
Next to the trap wall you find a contraption of some sort, mechanical in nature. It might be connected to the trap tiles that trigger the arrows, but you do not manage to disarm or jam it. Instead you notice that the lowest hole on the wall is shoulder-height with Viridian, leaving you ample room to crawl under as long as you’re careful. Annie gets the idea to send her almiraj familiar, Coco, to scout forward.
As you stumble upon another trap, Vilu is successful in disarming it with their thieves’ tools, and you each hear as the system grinds to a halt behind the wall and under you. You reckon it’s safe to continue forward, at least for a little while.
The corridors are long and dark, and you flinch each time Coco triggers another trap plate - thankfully the arrows seem to be aimed high enough for Coco to fly under the radar, despite triggering the pressure plate. At long last, you see a statue of the Amaunator, once more in his original (?) form of the old man, holding his scales of justice. Next to him burns a brazier, the wood of which has been replaced not too long ago, letting you know someone tending to this place has been down here quite recently. Vilu gets shot this time, an arrow glancing off their hip, not hitting too deeply.
As you continue down the corridor that seems to be getting darker and darker with each step, you find yourself faced with more shadows, shambling forth from the very darkness around them. Annie’s blasts of magic missiles paired with Viridian’s shillelagh and Primrose’s summoned crescent sickle take down the creatures, once more making them vanish back into the darkness but leaving behind no traces.
Eventually, the corridor leads to a fork in the road, and you investigate both directions carefully - eventually picking the one that Salvia seems to have taken, if the footsteps with the tail print are indeed his.
Viridian investigates another dark corner, summoning yet another shadow - at this point you already know what helps to banish them at least temporarily, and it doesn’t take you long to find an old prayer book. From between its pages, you find a note detailing the Dusk Prayer for Amaunator, and decide to keep that with you as you continue.
Alas, another type of a trap is triggered by Coco, as he steps right into a glyph of warding, only barely managing to hop off before a radiant blast sets off where he had just been standing. You each carefully hop over the glyphs, and decide to take a moment to recuperate before you continue on your search to find and rescue Dawnseeker Salvia.
