Helmthorne

The helmthorne is a common berry throughout Faerûn, particularly in the Forest of Wyrms in the Western Heartlands and throughout the Nether mountains. Helmthorne gets its name from large, imposing black thorns often usded as needles or dart points. The thorns can grow as large as an adult human's hand. 
Helmthorne's ripe indigo berries are often harvested to be either eaten or fermented into helmthorne wine. It is also a popular dessert berry and used especially for desserts in the summer. 
Occasionally, the plants will sprout a spring of red berries, which are highly prized when the goodberry spell is cast using red helmthorn berries, the effects of the spell last for two days instead of just one.
