Trouble in Millstone

After being transported unceremoniously to Millstone from Zilybar's tower, our three adventurers appeared in the tower of Zinro. But instead of being greeted by an Elven wizard, they were confronted by three Millstone guards brandishing weapons at them!   Epeh Hemu and multiple guards question the adventurers to see if they are at all responsible for the town sage Zinro's disappearance. The adventurers convince the guards that they are not responsible, but are still asked to be brought in for further questioning.   Stories, Ladida, and Varis allowed themselves to be escorted to the Millstone garrison and was given cells in the prison. The three were questioned by Epeh, getting the recounting of their stories individually. While questioning Ladida, an elderly woman is asked to identify her, saying that someone looking like Ladida had yesterday killed a Millstone guard, her son, then disappeared. The elderly woman could not pinpoint whether Ladida was the Dragonborn she saw.   During that evening, three guards approach Ladida's cage and unlock her, saying that she is free to go. The guards ask to escort her our of the garrison, and Ladida does not go with them. That is when they attack. They attempt to grapple and restrain Ladida, but she is far to nimble and strong to be restrained. Stories transform into a mouse and escapes her cage, and helps fend off the guaurds, while Varis uses his hands to shock the gaurds nearest him into submission.   After the three gaurds are put down, Epeh and a large gaurdsman, later introduced as Brinder Urgolzi, and six other guards storm the prison. Epeh questions what has happened here, and another prisoner's story sides with the hero's. Epeh escorts our three adventurers to her office, where Stories, Ladida, and Varis are questioned in private from the other guards.   Epeh confides with the adventurers about her suspicions. Within the last few months, she has suspected that a bandit presence has infiltrated the town, and has corrupted a number of her guardsmen against her command. The three who attacked Ladida were all under her suspicion, and this has proved that something is truly going on. She asked the three adventurers, for their freedom and be in Millstone's debt, to help her investigate what's going on. The three heroes agree.   They are then released into the town, with dusk just starting. The three adventurers go to a local tavern, The Infamous Princess Inn, and Varis and Ladida meet the innkeeper Reger Satsk while Stories does some reconnaissance in the stables. Stories spends some time in the rafters of the inn's stables, and overhears two guards chatting about how some of the guards have been acting weird, and that they tend to all change the guard paths to around the Temple. Reger chats with the adventurers about the town and the goings-on, and sells a particularly nice glass of liquor for Stories when she comes in, that he has indeed seen a number of new people in town, who look like ruffians. He notes that two of them are sitting upstairs.   Ladida notes that they are speaking in Thieves Cant, and attempts to make friends with them, but they are standoffish. After asking for work, they tell Ladida to meet them behind the Millstone Temple. Expecting a trap, Varis and Stories hid in the near-by bushes, while Ladida approaches basement doors behind the Millstone Temple. One of the ruffians from the inn opens the basement doors and ask Ladida inside, but she refuses. The ruffian attacks Ladida with a blackjack, and the ambush begins, but Stories has the ambush on them. A brutal fight ensues behind the Millstone Temple, where Ladida decapitates her attacker, but not after taking a few heavy blows to the head. Varis shocks and burns the attackers, and Stories transforms into a panther, and brutalizes two of the ambushers.   Now with the scuffle over with, multiple dead bodies in the surrounding grass, the three adventures are faced with a now open basement door leading to the darkness below the Millstone Temple...
