Mt. Rowan and the Steaming Hills

A Lonely Mountain

An active volcano named Mt. Rowan, Rowan being the barbarian it was named after that saved a nearby (now razed to the ground by orcs) village. The geothermal activity here is very high, to the point where citizens of the village of Elf's Descent actually use geothermal vents to steam food and create hot springs for tourists that pass by. It's changed their economy quite a bit, and they are expected to become a full-size town in a decade or so. As for the hills themselves, the residents of Elf's Descent advise people to not travel through the valleys without a guide, as that's where most of the sulfur lakes and geysers can be found. It's a pretty sight, to be sure, but there are plenty of monsters, highwaymen, and places where you could easily be burned alive with scalding hot water and sulfur.

Ecosystem Cycles

Snow that falls here during the winter is very often melted away by the springs, geysers, and vents, so it becomes easier to notice them during the winter. Snowfall is quite heavy here, after all. Many predators here hide in the cracks and crevices of different geothermal features to hunt for animals in the snowy terrain.

Localized Phenomena

Obviously, this would be the geysers, sulfuric pools, hot springs, steam vents, lava flow, and underground magma flows quite literally everywhere in the Underdark.

Climate

Windy and cold, though not necessarily snowy. Very often with a gray overcast rather than it being sunny, or at least cloudy. This is due to it being not too far from the coast.

Natural Resources

Plenty of metals to be found here if you mine well enough, and the wool from the sheep that live here is used quite often. Caribou are hunted here often, too, as well as many other animals.

Tourism

One of the few places in all of Ashtree that actually manages to get people moving to a different province to see it. It's not common in the rest of the kingdom to see these sorts of geothermal features, as you have to go to very remote locations in the highlands for it.
