The Narrows

A cramped section of slums located along the eastern end of Tillia. The neighborhood is densely populated and earned its name from the cramped living space and narrow streets. Besides small pushcarts horses and wagons are unable to navigate the majority of the neighborhood. Mounted city guards are unable to patrol the area and most on foot try to avoid it so petty and organized crime is prominent.

Defences

Narrow streets and alleys with high three, four story high buildings make the neighborhood easily defensible if City Guard attempts to sweep through in large groups in search of criminals or illegal dealings. The Narrows also is pressed up against the high defensive eastern wall and defensive towers of Tillia but far north of the eastern gate, making it much safer than most points in the city in a siege.

Industry & Trade

Low quality food and wares that are unable to be sold at Hud's Market, illegal weapons, services and contraband like opie.

Infrastructure

Flats, sewers, aqueducts, alleyways, Tillia's eastern wall.

Assets

Small businesses, black market dealers, pubs, brothels.

History

When the city's sewer system was first built, nearly all pipe systems leading out from the palace and Noble's End were designed to funnel into this small area and pump grey water outside past the eastern wall. Due to the overflowing sewers and inadequate materials for pipes, leaking occurred causing the entire neighborhood to constantly smell. The property value of the neighborhood dropped drastically leaving most buildings vacant and only those hoping to move out of the even more dangerous Shade's End were willing to settle in to fill the void.

Architecture

Cheaply made brick and stone flats with small businesses on street level. Most are three to four stories tall and have thrown together shacks and shanties on the roofs with planks of wood as makeshift bridges interconnecting buildings.
