Exiled Eastern Church

The Eastern Exiled Church is an ecclesial body formed at the end of 2234 from the diaspora of Christian communities chased out of their traditional homelands by majority Muslim populations.

Structure

The EEC is headed by a synod of its bishops, under them are priests and decons, and the laity.

Public Agenda

The EEC's official goal is the colonization of a world for their flock. They hope for a world that could be outdoor habitable, but belief that this is a possibility is waning. They also seek converts both within and outside Christianity.

Assets

The EEC owns numerous asteroids, temples on earth and Mars, and has a treasury built up from the tithes of the faithful. The Church also holds what amounts to a fortress on Ganymede, although officially it is a cathedral.

History

Starting at the end of the 20th century disruption of Ba'athist regimes in the middle east that had protected historic Christian communities were destroyed by the United States of America. Over the next century and a half virtually every vestige of Christianity was erased from Muslim majority countries. In most instances this was through technically illegal, but tolerated acts of terrorism, and discrimination. As the Christian communities dissolved their temples were either destroyed or used as mosques. In 2234 Members of the resulting diaspora gathered in Fremantle, Western Australia to form an ecumenical alliance to advocate for themselves. However, during the course of the meeting they decided to simply form a single ecclesial body. This body was regarded as schismatic by the parent churches, except for the Nestorian Church, which essentially joined the EEC in whole.
In 2323 members of the group claimed responsibility for the destruction of Mecca in revenge for the expulsion and erasure of their ancestral communities. Those who accepted responsibility were excommunicated, but regardless this caused a conflict which persists to the present day between the EEC and a those more devout of Muslims.

Mythology & Lore

The mythology of the EEC is the same as is typical for the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches.

Tenets of Faith

The statement of faith of the EEC is as follows:
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.   And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.   And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.

Priesthood

The priesthood is composed of bishops, priests, and deacons, with other minor orders of non ordained monks, nuns, readers, and cantors.

I was half-expecting this to be an interestingly named creature when I clicked.

Haha, nope, just an excuse for me to put fancy church architecture on space ships or moons.
