Flatland Orcs

Flatland Orcs live in nomadic tribes, each with its own chief. They travel the land, following prey all across the countryside to keep themselves fed. Other tribes go from town to town, setting up camp a couple of miles out of town and staging several raids over the course of a few days, leaving once the towns resources have been depleted. They will rape and pillage, but they try to kill as few people as possible, so that they can raid the town again in a few years once they have rebuilt their resources.

Culture

Coming of Age Rites

Plains Orcs must fight to be considered adults, and their adversary is chosen for them. Sometimes it is a monster, or a captured adventurer, or sometimes it’s a more experienced warrior from their own tribe. If they win, they are accepted as a full member of the tribe. If they lose, they are exiled or killed on the spot.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Plains Orcs tend to have darker skin tones, from their time in the sun, ranging from almost pitch black to grey to a very dark, almost blackened green. Their eyes tend to run dark browns and greens, and their hair is almost always black or brown. They wear their hair in braids, holding them in with strips of leather, and their higher ups usually have more braids in their hair. The braids signify battles they have won, with every braid equaling one battle, starting with their Coming of Age battle. Otherwise, the males tend to be bald on their heads, and the females who take non-combatant roles tend to have medium to long, straight hair. Plains orcs have small fangs, which come up slightly past their upper lips. Plains Orcs take on a special braid for any battle they win against an elf, forgoing the usual leather strip in favor of a strip of fabric taken from the elf’s clothing.
