Yulan

Originating from Dali folk dedicated to the teachings of Yula, the Yulan are peaceful and positive, and do their best to avoid harming others. They most often do not dwell on the past or the future; and their lives are governed not by magic or technology, but by traditions and artistic expression.   Even though the culture originated in the tribes of the Calm Islands, it has since spread to various individuals all around the world - especially to the followers of the deity.   The Yulans live in harmony not only with each other, but with nature, beasts, and even monsters that surround them. Their Clerics (of Yula) fight through pacifying their foes and giving Souls to monsters. Which is oddly why they are rather proficient in Necromancy - the magic of doing exactly that.

Naming Traditions

Family names

Their naming traditions usually follow those of the Dali, but they have dropped any rules and it's mostly just calling others by whichever name they prefer to be called by.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Causing intentional physical or mental harm is a grave taboo for the Yulan and those who do are often given help and supplies to find different communities.

Art & Architecture

Art is where a Yulan expresses their negative emotions. Most Yulan art can be identified through its two-layer setup:
  • the first layer is the expression of anger, frustration, disappointment, or a tragic event
  • the second layer is the solution to dealing with whatever was depicted on the first layer.
  • For example in case of paintings the two layers are painted on top of each other, so while from afar it looks entirely positive if one looks closer they can see shreds of the darker first layer between the lines.

    Major organizations

Most Yulan societies are located in the Region of Calm Islands, as vassals of Ruanon who are made to gather the toxic-yet-incredibly-useful-when-processed Repelgil for the empire.
