Magical Barrier
We have discovered that we can manifest Abjuration Magic to have a stronger physical form by pouring more Mana into a spell than what's necessary. After a certain point the physical form starts expanding, and in case of curvier shapes we can form domes and barriers that cover a large area. However, to keep these going we have to constantly pour Mana into them, which means that Mages are necessary for the function of a Magical Barrier.
Nowadays Magical Barriers are considered a waste of Mana.

Sorcerers have been observed to have more colorful and solid magical shields, and were first thought to be more naturally powerful. However this assumption has later been debunked and proven that it's due to them being generally less proficient at controlling their Mana expenditure - due to usually lacking knowledge in the fundamentals of Magology.
