Dragonborn

Dragonborn as they call themselves believe they are the next step in dragonkind's evolution and that fills them with pride. To other races this seems more like arrogance. In their society the pure blooded rule as the undisputed lords of the dragon empire of 'Draconia'. The concept of 'pureblooded' stems from the appearances of the true dragons of Édafos. Horns and tails are the lesser but undisputed sign of a pureblood, after that comes the growth of wings and dragonsbreath. But only the royal families close to the Dragon Emporer have the gift of true dragons, magic. The Arcane is considered to be a gift from the gods and many pursue it through study and the Dragonborn are no exception.

The Metallic and the Chromatic

Like true dragons, the dragonborn come in variety shades and forms. In the chromatic forms of black, blue, green, red, and white. While the metallic come in brass, bronze, copper, gold, and silver. The purity of a dragonborn's bloodline determines their other features.
The Chromatic are more numerous in the continent of Draconia, but less than a fraction of their populace bears the resemblance to their dragon ancestors. The Metallic are in the minority on the continent but almost all of them are born as pureblooded. Bahamut commanded his progeny, the metallic dragonborn to sheperd the chromatics and aid them in repressing their evil nature. And thus any chromatic dragonborn child is born in servitude until they become of age. After that their fate is decided by the nobles of their home province, their duties, their home, and even their partner is chosen for them.
Most outsiders would think this as a tyranny. And it might be, where it not forthe fact that the metallic adhere to this way of life as well. The nobles have lords above them as well, dukes rule above marquess, marquess rule above counts and so on. Only the Dragon Emperor has the final say in the fate of a dragonborn. Whispers say that every Dragon Emperor was chosen by Bahamut himself, and only a fool would challenge the word of god.
