A new age dawns! The world and its people fall before the tremendous strength and march of the industry and innovation that has, in recent years, exploded from the Union of the Nine Cities. The skies brown with the belching smoke of military and economic might, as nation after nation have fallen to the nine squabbling states, oil for the machine of industiral civilization.   The Empires of old have fallen into disrepair in this new age. New industrial cities spring from the decrepit ruins of once great, jewel-encrusted cities. Falling empires struggle to hold on to lands that race towards new ideas and away from the older class systems and feudal fidelity. New states stare in suspicion and envy at each other, vying for the cutting edge innovations created every year. This is the age of tension and spies, as leaders try to prevent world war, while trying to stab each other in the back.   Magic, once so prevalent in the world, has retreated with the onslaught of natural philosophy and the religion of the Church of Sacris Ordinum. Natural philosophers scour the world for the last vestiges of histories long forgotten, and the secrets these ruins hold. From the tombs of old sorcerer-kings to the abandoned dwarfish mines from the Age of Mythos, the interiors of the two continents of Golren and Talren are scavenged by large expedition forces. Magic wielders are pushed further and further back, being left in reservations, or at the edges of civilization.
