Session 4

General Summary

Crispen, March, and Reytris wake up after their long rest at the Inn and prepare to travel the rest of the way to Downfall, only to find that the water level has significantly risen since they were asleep. Before they even have time to react a mysterious figure starts speaking to them from a table at the end of the room. This stranger has the appearance of a human but seems to be something else entirely. They give the name of "The Caller" to the party and speak of how they have traveled all across the planes, including Barovia, Toril, and Ravnica. They offer the party a boat ride to the Tollway in front of Downfall in exchange for letting them have their fortunes read using Tarroka by the caller. The caller draws three cards for all three party members, speaking of the rule of three and highlighting its reoccurrence in the plane of Prismeer. The first card, representing the past, is the Executioner, hinting that the party may have faced unjust prosecution before they arrived in Prismeer. Representing the present is the Mist, which represents both a great quest, obviously referring to the party's current quest to find out what happened to Tasha, as well as something mysterious that can be avoided that has yet to reveal itself. Finally the future is represented by the Traitor, indicating either the obvious betrayal by someone close, or perhaps a more general weakening or loss of faith. The Caller remained vague but kept their word and guided the party on a paddleboat through the swamp. Upon arriving at the Tollway, the Caller departed, asking the party to give their regards to Tasha from "her most humble of servants".   The Brigand's Tollway was initially quiet, besides a few alligators that the party noticed not a creature seemed to be in sight. March attempted to sneak towards the Giant Snail corral while Crispen grabbed Jingle Jangle's truffles and a bottled memory from Agdon's stash. It was then that the party noticed that they were not alone, Agdon had snuck among them, walking with them somehow unnoticed, followed by his band of brigands appearing from behind the giant tree stump. Agdon's arrogance and callousness were immediately offputting to the party, and Reytris quickly went for Agdon's throat.   Wacky hijinks ensue. During the battle all involved either die or come to the brink of death. Sir Talavar attempted to polymorph Agdon into a seahorse, but the spell was reversed and he found himself as one instead, being chased by the alligators underwater. Meanwhile the party struggled against Agdon's hit-and-run attacks and the crossbow support from his band. Sir Talavar finally recovered to his original form but was immediately killed by a knife thrown by Agdon. The tide eventually turned when Crispen finally stole the giant snail and attempted to trample Agdon. Agdon managed to incapacitate both March and Crispen, but Reytris, who miraculously recovered from what should have been a fatal blow, was finally able to deal the final blow on Agdon, slicing his throat, drinking his blood, and sending his body into the swamp for the alligators.   After the battle the party crossed through the entrance to Downfall, with March treating their wounds with expert medical knowledge, taking the opportunity to rest. Reytris has mysteriously gone nonverbal since the experience, but that mystery will have to be left until next time
