Felis

Felis are a complicated people with a complicated history. To many their culture is full of contradictions and most others find themselves always on edge when visiting the Felis Kingdom. But to hear them tell it, they come from a wonderful land of opulence.

Agile and Neurotic

Felis have the appearance of humanoids felines, ranging from wildcats to lions or tigers in appearance. They are tall and usually slender, although ones with large physique are not unheard of. Regardless, they usually stand tall and proud, with an aura of superiority. Despite this they are often skittish and careful, almost constantly on edge. They tend to be as tall as humans and capable of nearly contortionist feats of movement.

Keeping up Apperances

To a felis their status is worn like clothing, their motives intentionally obscured by a mask of aloofness. While such attitudes are common among nobility in human lands, to a felis it's core to their racial identity, regardless of their walk of life. At every point of their life a felis is on the lookout to improve their social status, but is beholden by social norms from acting openly. A felis life is steeped heavily in intrigue, scheming, secret alliances and backstabbing. Those who can't keep up with the game lose their status and in worst cases are on the run from their lands. This is usually the backstory of any felis adventurer.

Regimented but Chaotic Society

The Felis Kingdom has a long a bloody history of internal conflict, the most recent one having happened only about 20 years ago. The uprising of Leonidas has led to him becoming the new ruler and as part of his efforts the kingdom became more stable, cut down on corruption and reduced the crime rate, as well as strengthening the feudal system and empowering the clergy. Due to the two faced nature of the felis the situation seems more controlled on the surface, but in the shadows many of the old problems are still present. Thanks to this efforts however the kingdom has become stronger and the race became more capable when dealing with others as well as inspiring more trust.

Felis Names

Felis have names derived from their language that usually have a meaning behind them that the parents want their child to embody, or in some case just numbered based on when they were born. Only nobility carry surnames, which those in exile often drop in fear of being recognized and captured for ransom.
