Spice Isles
Setting eyes upon the jewel-bright seas and dancing palms and bright sands... It makes you wonder, why did we ever leave?
—Diary of a Mariscine Sailor
The Spice Isles are a group of volcanic islands located to the west of Cuendar. They are comprised of eight major islands and thousands of smaller islets, seamounts, and atolls. They are currently governed by a tribal council, with representatives from various clans meeting on Council Rock to discuss their differences. As their name suggests, the Spice Isles are known for their spices, including cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.
Islands
From west to east, the Spice Isles are as follows:
- Proébia, "The Forbidden Isle"
- Ardinia, "The Garden Isle"
- Ora, "The Golden Isle"
- Amalia, "The Isle of Friendship"
- Moscada, "The Isle of Nutmeg"
- Caénia, "The Isle of Cinnamon"
- Diéga, "The Isle of Fire"
- Grandia, "The Grand Isle"
Wildlife
Several native species live in the Isles, and others have been introduced. Ilic forests are generally populated by acacias, myrtles, and palms. Ilic flowers, which are characteristically bright and colorful, include anthuria, hibiscuses, and morning glories. Native animal species include a variety of saurian species, including sauopods, theropods, and pterosaurs. Meanwhile, cattle and pigs have been introduced and are now commonly consumed by Ilines.
Economy and Trade
The Ilic economy is characterized by the spice trade. The Spice Isles are home to a variety of native spice varieties like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg that are not able to be grown anywhere else in the world. These spices are generally grown on Caénia and Moscada and shipped out of Port Grandia. On the other islands fishing is a major industry, with tuna, dolphinfish, and lobster all common catches for Ilic fishermen.
