The Duchy of Freising

The Duchy of Freising is perhaps the most liberal of the normally conservative member states that make up the Drachen Confederacy. While they are still ruled in a monarchical, feudal structure that is familiar to both the Kingdom of Tolrania and the Confederacy, it is in the Duchy of Freising where merchants and commoners have more sway than other places.

Structure

The Duchy of Freising is a mix of feudal tradition and modern mercantile influences. Organized under the Grand Duke of Freisberg, traditional fiefdoms are carved out and ultimately lead back, in terms of loyalty, back to the Grand Duke. However, as Freisberg and Freising is often the foremost partner of trade with the Zendar Republics, and by proxy the Kingdom of Tolrania, its merchant class is often the richest within the Drachen Confederacy and their guilds hold a surprising amount of political influence given how many nobles' assets are tied in mercantile trade. It has given way for three factions the Grand Duke must keep appeased, his nobility, merchants, and peasantry.

Culture

The culture of the Duchy of Freising is perhaps the most diverse in the whole of the Drachen Confederacy given how much trade is conducted on a daily basis. It is because of this, at least along its coastal regions and lands near the Zendar Republics, that Freising is socially acceptive of many types of kith, including Tieflings (much to the Prince-Bishopric of the Anderfels displeasure).   While its history of military tradition is rather weak compared to the Voldenbaum Reich and the Kingdom of Preußens, its southernmost lands are familiar with battle after a great series of wars between them and the Prince-Bishopric of the Anderfels under the accusation of heresy and the protection of demons.

Public Agenda

While the Duchy of Freising is publically a Sovereignist faction in the debate of whether or not to unify the Drachen Confederacy into a single nation, that is merely what its noble minority would wish for. The majority that far outweighs the nobility, but does not out voice them, is the swelling merchant class, wishing for a standardized method of trade to make it cheaper and far easier for profits to be made.
