Feast of Last Light

This festival occurs on 27th day of the last month of the year. On this day the sun sets for the last time of the year. The sun does not rise on the 28th and will not rise again until the 1st day of the new year. While it is typically called a Feast on most calendars, its actual celebration varies from culture to culture, and the name is instead derived from the belief that the gods hold a grand feast on this day. During this time magic becomes significantly weaker, and many less powerful spellcasters lose the ability to use their magic completely.   This lack of magic occasionally is used to the advantage of various parties looking to take advantage of a weakened enemy, causing many nations and organizations that rely on spell casting to come up with contingency plans for the night.

Hilverdoorn Cultures

Hilverdoorn based cultures typically believe that it is the duty of the gods to control the rising and setting of the sun, and the god's take turns raising it everyday. The only exception to this day being 28th of Fellnight. Legends vary even within specific cultures but it is generally believed on this day the gods retreat their influence from the material plane to convene on a neutral demi-plane outside the natural cosmology. On this plane the gods are said to hold a grand feast among themselves and some of their greatest allies. It is believed that this demi-plane cuts off all connection to the gods during their feast, and so the magic and power the gods gives the world go with them, explaining the weakened magic sources. The end of the god's feast and their return marks the first day of the new year and the return of magic.

Otwin

Ought people will typically sleep most of the day of the 27th, opting to not get up until near sunset. They will then spend time with their families and watch the last sunset of the year while holding small private feasts among their families, where they celebrate their personal accomplishments over the last year. After the feasts families will often attend large festivals held throughout the streets of Ought cities.

Laggsunde

Laggsunde people typically spend the 27th either in preparation for large feast among their tribe or in travel to Dirdala. Those who stay with just their tribe will often spend a relaxing evening eating and drinking, while those who travel to Dirdala will often try to spend time with those from outside their tribe eating and drinking with various new friends. Eventually both groups tribe shamans will gather everyone for a large ceremony, involving the shaman walking around the tribe with an incense burner filled with various psychedelic mushrooms, similar to those used in their coming of age rituals. Supposedly allowing people to also travel to the demi-plane and dine with their gods.

Jouilat

The church dictates very specific measures to the Jouilat people and how they must celebrate the feast. They believe the feast is to be held privately among family members in ones home. Those who do not have direct family to celebrate with are encouraged to stay inside their home and have a small dinner to themselves. Before dinner is to commence, windows and doors are to be shuttered and locked for the night, and no one is to go outside until the long night is over. It is believed that when the gods leave the world like this, it is much easier to upset the natural balance that the church works so hard to keep.

Madja

Madja legend tells that a long night similar to the one on the 28th is what came just before the great cataclysm that destroyed the precursors, and so they believe it is a warning by the gods. The disappearance of magic during this time only furthers this belief, and so Madja believe this period is meant to humble magic users and force them to remember magic is a resource that must not be overused. Due to the tales of towering waves ravaging the coast. Fearing another cataclysm the Madja will often go out to sea on the 27th and will not return until the dawn of the new year, believing that they will be able to navigate rough seas better then survive the destructive waves on shore.
