Imperial Legions
The Realm's armies. They were once loyal directly to the Scarlet Empress alone, but since her disappearance 5 years ago, they are now divided up among the Great Houses.
1 Legion's Structure:
5,000 legionnaires total in 10 dragons. 2-3,000 skimishers in 4-6 dragons. Organized into flights (formations) by a general. Legion = 5,000 soldiers = 10 500-soldier dragons led by a dragonlords
Dragon = 500 soldiers = 2 250-soldier wings led by winglords
Wing = 250 soldiers = 2 125-soldier talons led by talonlords
Talon = 125 soldiers = 5 25-soldier scale led by scalelords
Scale = 25 soldiers = 5 5-sodlier fangs led by noncommissioned fanglorsd
Fang = 5 soldiers led by a fanglord Scalelords and Fanglords are usually mortals. Mortals will sometimes make it up to talonlord but not usually further, except for exceptionally rare individuals that can make it up to dragonlord. But never general. Talonlords will be mortal or dragon-blooded, whereas winglords and higher are almost always dragon-blooded. Usually have 4-6 dragons of skirmishers - archers, javelineers, and slingers. These scout, harry enemy formations, and tie up opposing skirmishers and cavalry and are usually paid half a legionaires' pay. They have lower status and are largely deemed expendable.
