Reckonclaw

Reckonclaw is a magical two-bladed sword created by Archmage Darius Korr in 420 ME. The arcane object is legendary and follows its creators reputation as a source of fear and destruction. It's wielder, once attuned, can direct the two blades to burst into an eldritch flame.   It boasts an extended hilt with two long, straight blades on either end. The hilt is wrapped in crossed leather straps made from the hide of an imp, and the blades are forged steel embedded with flakes of obsidian. It features narrow cross guards, one of which features a sharp hook pointed toward the wielder. The core of the hilt is made from 'thirstwood', a wood native to Crablack known for its durability yet absorptive properties.   The blade above the hooked cross guard is emblazoned with Korr's family crest. Reckonclaw was stolen from Korr by his apprentice Emerick Hardenloss, when Hardenloss fled Korr's domineering mentorship, and taken to the Hekros Isles.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Anyone can simply swing the blade at an opponent, but for one to truly wield Reckonclaw he or she must undergo an attunement ritual. The blade must be taken to a coastline at twilight during a low tide and meditate with the sword within a circle. The circle is composed of 5 red candles and the bodies of 5 creatures slain on sight during the sunset that day. The creatures may be small: crabs, gulls, fish and the like are adequate. The new owner must prick their hand on the hook one the swords hilt, and "feed" it one pint of blood during the meditation, which Reckonclaw absorbs completely.   In order to activate the flaming blades, the user must be attuned and must feed the blade one drop of blood every 24 hours to use the sword that day. The blood must be drawn using the hook on the hilt.
